Field Visit to Automatic Weather Station
5 Cadets of class 11- Cdt. Shaijal Patil, Cdt. Aarya Kore, Cdt. Shreya Ghevari, Cdt. Siddhi Navale, Cdt. Swarali Thelkar with school Senior master Mr. Shyam Nangare and ATL incharge Mrs. Manjiri Patil from RLMSS visited to Khadki Education Society’s Chetan Dattaji Gaikwad English Medium School, Kirkree on Thursday, 29 August 2024 for obtaining the information about the project of Automatic Weather Station (AWS) which is set up in the school in association with Syngenta company and Rotary club of Khadaki.
Mr. Rajesh Nalawade, Chief technical officer has explained the Structure as well as the application of AWS. The main objectives of the AWS is to create awareness among students about climate, weather monitoring and climate study. Cadets had a great discussion with Dr. J.R. Kulkarni, retired scientist from Indian Institute of Tropical Meterology ( IITM), Pune about the study and detailed explanation of AWS.
The Automatic weather station has solar panel, rain gauge, wind spin sensor, etc.
The station provides information about weather parameters like rainfall, temperature , humidity of that within max. 10 km area. Dr. J. R. Kulkarni guided the students on weather parameters, impact of weather, weather observations and IPCC and about using the AWS data for use by students in their curriculum. The session ended with a very interactive doubt solving and vote of thanks.
Indeed this visit was useful for the cadets to develop awareness about environmental issues due to changing climatic conditions and to gain knowledge about applications of advanced technology in real life.
